22.青蛙和牛, The Frog and the Ox (qīng wā hé niú)

yī zhī xiǎo qīng wā zuò zài yī gè chí zǐ páng biān dà jiào ： “ ò、 bà bà ，

一只小青蛙坐在一个池子旁边大叫：“哦，爸爸，

wǒ kàn dào yī gè kě pà de guài wù ， tā xiàng yī zuò shān nà me dà ，

我看到一个可怕的怪物，它像一座山那么大，

tā de tóu shàng yǒu shuāng jiǎo 、 cháng wěi bɑ ， shì fēn tí zú ” 。   

它的头上有双角、长尾巴，是分蹄足”。

lǎo qīng wā shuō： “ hāi ！ hái zǐ ， zhè shì nóng chǎng zhǔ de yī tóu bái sè de niú 。    

老青蛙说：“咳！孩子，这是农场主的一头白色的牛。

zài shuō tā yě bìng bù shì nà me dà ， tā zhǐ shì bǐ wǒ shāo gāo yī diǎn ér ér yǐ ，

kuàng qiě wǒ yě kě yǐ qīng ér yì jǔ de bǎ zì jǐ chuī de hěn páng dà 。

况且我也可以轻而易举地把自己吹的很庞大。

nǐ lái kàn ！ ”   yú shì ， tā kāi shǐ bǎ zì jǐ chuī dà 、 chuī dà ， zài chuī dà 。

你来看！” 于是，它开始把自己吹大、吹大，再吹大。

lǎo qīng wā wèn ： “ tā yǒu wǒ zhè me dà mɑ ？ ” 。

老青蛙问：“它有我这么大吗？”。

xiǎo qīng wā shuō ： “ ò、 bǐ zhè dà duō le ” 。

小青蛙说：“哦，比这大多了”。

lǎo qīng wā jiē zhe zài chuī ， bìng wèn xiǎo qīng wā nà zhī niú shì fǒu xiàng tā yī yàng dà 。

老青蛙接着再吹，并问小青蛙那只牛是否像它一样大。

tā huí dā ： “ gèng dà， bà bà ， gèng dà xiē ” 。

它回答：“更大，爸爸，更大些”。

jiē zhe zhè zhī qīng wā shēn shēn de xī le yī kǒu qì ，

接着这只青蛙深深的吸了一口气，

bǎ zì jǐ chuī yɑ chuī ，   ràng zì jǐ bù duàn de péng zhàng   。

把自己吹呀吹， 让自己不断的彭胀 。

rán hòu ， tā shuō ： “ wǒ què dìng zhè zhī niú méi yǒu wǒ zhè me dà le ” 。

然后，它说：“我确定这只牛没有我这么大了”。

dàn shì ， jiù zài zhè yī kè ， tā bǎ zì jǐ chēng pò le 。

但是，就在这一刻，它把自己撑破了。

gù shì shì shuō ： zì gāo zì dà huì dǎo zhì zì wǒ huǐ miè 。

故事是说：自高自大会导致自我毁灭。

"Oh Father," said a little Frog to the big one sitting by the side of a pool,

yī zhī xiǎo qīng wā zuò zài yī gè chí zǐ páng biān dà jiào ： “ ò、 bà bà ，

"I have seen such a terrible monster!  It was as big as a mountain,

wǒ kàn dào yī gè kě pà de guài wù ， tā xiàng yī zuò shān nà me dà ，

with horns on its head, and a long tail, and it had hoofs divided in two."

tā de tóu shàng yǒu shuāng jiǎo 、 cháng wěi bɑ ， shì fēn tí zú ” 。   

"Tush, child, tush," said the old Frog, "that was only Farmer White's Ox.  

lǎo qīng wā shuō： “ hāi ！ hái zǐ ， zhè shì nóng chǎng zhǔ de yī tóu bái sè de niú 。    

It isn't so big either; he may be a little bit taller than I,

zài shuō tā yě bìng bù shì nà me dà ， tā zhǐ shì bǐ wǒ shāo gāo yī diǎn ér ér yǐ ，

but I could easily make myself quite as broad;

kuàng qiě wǒ yě kě yǐ qīng ér yì jǔ de bǎ zì jǐ chuī de hěn páng dà 。

just you see."  So he blew himself out, and blew himself out, and blew himself out.  

nǐ lái kàn ！ ”   yú shì ， tā kāi shǐ bǎ zì jǐ chuī dà 、 chuī dà ， zài chuī dà 。

"Was he as big as that?" asked he.

lǎo qīng wā wèn ： “ tā yǒu wǒ zhè me dà mɑ ？ ” 。

"Oh, much bigger than that," said the young Frog.

xiǎo qīng wā shuō ： “ ò、 bǐ zhè dà duō le ” 。

Again the old one blew himself out, and asked the young one if the Ox was as big as that.

lǎo qīng wā jiē zhe zài chuī ， bìng wèn xiǎo qīng wā nà zhī niú shì fǒu xiàng tā yī yàng dà 。

"Bigger, father, bigger," was the reply.

tā huí dā ： “ gèng dà， bà bà ， gèng dà xiē ” 。

So the Frog took a deep breath, and blew and blew and blew,

jiē zhe zhè zhī qīng wā shēn shēn de xī le yī kǒu qì ，

and swelled and swelled and swelled.

bǎ zì jǐ chuī yɑ chuī ，   ràng zì jǐ bù duàn de péng zhàng   。

And then he said: "I'm sure the Ox is not as big as this.  

rán hòu ， tā shuō ： “ wǒ què dìng zhè zhī niú méi yǒu wǒ zhè me dà le ” 。

But at this moment he burst.

dàn shì ， jiù zài zhè yī kè ， tā bǎ zì jǐ chēng pò le 。

Self-conceit may lead to self-destruction.

gù shì shì shuō ： zì gāo zì dà huì dǎo zhì zì wǒ huǐ miè 。
