14.震动的山, The Mountains in Labour (zhèn dòng de shān)

yǒu yī tiān ， yī qún xiāng xià rén fā xiàn shān zài yáo dòng ，

有一天，一群乡下人发现山在摇动，

gēn zhe shān dǐng mào chū nóng yān ， jiǎo xià de dà dì yě zài zhèn dòng zhe ，

跟着山顶冒出浓烟，脚下的大地也在震动着，

shù mù fēn fēn dǎo xià ， lián jù shí yě zài fān gǔn 。

树木纷纷倒下，连巨石也在翻滚。

tā men xīn xiǎng kě pà de shì qíng kěn dìng jiāng yào suí zhī fā shēng 。

他们心想可怕的事情肯定将要随之发生。

tā men jiù jù zài yī qǐ guān kàn kě pà de shì qíng dào dǐ shì shén me 。

他们就聚在一起观看可怕的事情到底是什么。

tā men děng le yòu děng ， què shén me yě méi yǒu chū xiàn 。

他们等了又等，却什么也没有出现。

zuì hòu ， gēng qiáng liè de dì zhèn lái le，

最后，更强烈的地震来了，

zài shān biān zhèn chū le yī tiáo jù dà de liè fèng 。 

在山边震出了一条巨大的裂缝。

tā men dōu guì xià jì xù děng dài he ，

他们都跪下继续等待着，

zài zuì hòu ，zài zuì hòu ,yī zhī xiǎo lǎo shǔ zài shān de liè fèng chù zuān chū xiǎo nǎo dài xiàng tā men pǎo lái 。

在最后，在最后，一只小老鼠在山的裂缝处钻出小脑袋向他们跑来。

cóng cǐ yǐ hòu ， tā men jiù cháng cháng shuō ： léi shēng dà ， yǔ diǎn ér xiǎo  

从此以后，他们就常常说：雷声大，雨点儿小

One day the Countrymen noticed that the Mountains were in labour;

yǒu yī tiān ， yī qún xiāng xià rén fā xiàn shān zài yáo dòng ，

smoke came out of their summits, the earth was quaking at their feet,

gēn zhe shān dǐng mào chū nóng yān ， jiǎo xià de dà dì yě zài zhèn dòng zhe ，

trees were crashing, and huge rocks were tumbling.

shù mù fēn fēn dǎo xià ， lián jù shí yě zài fān gǔn 。

They felt sure that something horrible was going to happen.

tā men xīn xiǎng kě pà de shì qíng kěn dìng jiāng yào suí zhī fā shēng 。

They all gathered together in one place to see what terrible thing this could be.  

tā men jiù jù zài yī qǐ guān kàn kě pà de shì qíng dào dǐ shì shén me 。

They waited and they waited, but nothing came.

tā men děng le yòu děng ， què shén me yě méi yǒu chū xiàn 。

At last there was a still more violent earthquake, 

zuì hòu ， gēng qiáng liè de dì zhèn lái le，

and a huge gap appeared in the side of the Mountains.

zài shān biān zhèn chū le yī tiáo jù dà de liè fèng 。 

They all fell down upon their knees and waited.  

tā men dōu guì xià jì xù děng dài he ，

At last, and at last, a teeny, tiny mouse poked its little head and bristles out of the gap and came running down towards them,

zài zuì hòu ，zài zuì hòu ,yī zhī xiǎo lǎo shǔ zài shān de liè fèng chù zuān chū xiǎo nǎo dài xiàng tā men pǎo lái 。

and ever after they used to say:"Much outcry, little outcome."

cóng cǐ yǐ hòu ， tā men jiù cháng cháng shuō ： léi shēng dà ， yǔ diǎn ér xiǎo
